Kolin Baffet, LEED AP

Bio
Kolin Baffet has been working on blending building energy efficiency with culture and community since 1978. A 1977 BA from the University of Alaska focused on studies in psychology and ethnology and gave Ken a structured awareness of the role values play in creation of strong community. His 1982 Master of Architecture degree from the University of Idaho developed energy and resource efficient construction techniques and the use of local-based materials to create vernacular and sustainable buildings. His first company, Integrated Living Designs, registered in Idaho in 1982, recognized that buildings were systemic in nature and that good design needs to reflect that the whole can be greater than the sum of the parts.
Ken works with the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance as an educator and training coordinator for the commercial building energy efficiency sector. Through contracts with both Idaho and Nevada Offices of Energy Ken has developed energy efficiency strategies and programs with school districts and utilities and assisted in development of LEED design professional procurement guidelines for public and private buildings. In Idaho he led a statewide university consortium and Idaho National Lab project to capture the differential cost of LEED Silver certification for the Center for Advanced Energy Studies in Idaho Falls.
Ken is a co-founder and advisory board member of the University of Idaho Integrated Design Lab. He coordinates International Energy Conservation Code development and education in Idaho and has co-led energy code efforts in Nevada and Utah. Ken has developed and led eco-charrettes for the City of Tolleson, Arizona, Ada County Idaho Parks and Recreation, Idaho State University, the Center for Advanced Energy Studies, and the City of Post Falls Idaho.
He is an experienced writer, educator, facilitator, and mediator.
